Alex James has said Blur‘s imminent appearance at the 2012 Brit Awards, when they will collect the Outstanding Contribution prize and also perform live, could the be the band’s ‘last bow’.
Since the completion of a number of reunion tour dates in 2009, Blur have hinted at sporadic touring sessions on numerous occasions, while Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon handed a brand new track its debut during a short acoustic gig in London last night, displaying to the world for the first time the fruits of those studio hook-ups.
However, when writing in The Sun newspaper, James has insisted their Brit Awards appearance could still prove to be the final act for Blur, despite the fact that the four bandmates are now maintaining an interest in the group simply for ‘the joy of it’.
“There is always a feeling that this may be Blur’s last bow, which I suppose makes it all the more exciting,” he wrote. “We’ve been asked to perform five songs. I met up with the band last week and we discussed what we will play. I’m more excited about playing a few of the old hits again than winning. Winning prizes is nothing compared to the feeling of playing music.”
“Pulling the band back together is like reassembling the A-Team for one last job. I’m a cheesemaker now. As much as we loved Blur, if you do anything day in, day out for 15 years, it becomes a job. We all needed to go our separate ways and do other things with our lives. Now when we play together, it’s for the joy of it, like in our early days.”
