Thom Yorke will play US dates in December when he returns to solo work through the reissue of Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes that same month.
Yorke’s second solo LP caused a stir back in 2014 when it was released via BitTorrent and went on to register over one million downloads, BitTorrent chief Matt Mason saying at the time that the move was aimed at countering a quiet period in which ‘the biggest innovation in music has been Apple releasing a tool to remove a U2 album from your iTunes’. “It’s been a bad year for music innovation,” he continued.
“The way major labels just throw all their music on Spotify, they’ve given up on selling people music. We hope to prove with this and our work with other artists – we’ve worked with Madonna, Linkin Park as well as lots of rising names – that there’s another way.”
From December 8th, the LP will be available on the more conventional CD and vinyl formats, as well as streaming services. Soon after, Yorke plays headline shows at the Fonda Theater in Los Angeles and Fox Theater in Oakland, followed by an appearance at Houston’s Day For Night Festival.
