‘New shows’ and ‘new sounds’ was what Kevin Parker promised at the start of this year, and there’s a snippet of the latter now up on Instagram.
It was upon Tame Impala‘s confirmation as Coachella headliners when Parker made the comment, and the ‘new shows’ have since swelled to include headline North American dates in May and an appearance at Boston Calling. The ‘new sounds’ should bring a fourth Tame Impala album at some point in 2019, something Parker discussed on Beats 1 last summer.
“I love playing the songs live, I love playing Currents songs, I love playing Lonerism songs and everything, but I think I’m ready to play some other songs live,” he said. “All the instinctual things are there.”
“I mean, my thing is that I don’t like to play unreleased songs live. I like that the first time people hear it is the kind of the recorded glory, like the premeditated thing that I’ve spent two years on, rather than being half drunk bashing it out on stage you know, hitting clanger notes and stuff.”
