A previously unreleased David Bowie album will be included in the ‘Who Can I Be Now? (1974-1976)‘ box-set later this year.
‘The Gouster‘ was recorded in 1974, rooted in soul and funk and a precursor to his Thin White Duke period. It eventually evolved into ‘Young Americans‘, released in 1975.
Bowie’s official Facebook page has printed sleeve notes from the late icon’s long-time collaborator Tony Visconti, a part of which read:
“Gouster was a word unfamiliar to me but David knew it as a type of dress code worn by African American teens in the 60s, in Chicago. But in the context of the album its meaning was attitude, an attitude of pride and hipness. Of all the songs we cut, we were enamoured of the ones we chose for the album that portrayed this attitude.”
