Pete Doherty has thrown his weight behind the possibility of the latest Libertines reconciliation resulting in new material from the band.
The group are set for their first live appearance since the Reading/Leeds festival of 2010 when they headline British Summertime this July and, quoted in The Independent earlier this week, Carl Barat discussed the chances of new songs being heard during that performance.
“We’re brothers, we still finish each other’s sentences,” he said. “I’m seeing Pete next week and we’ll get the guitars out. Hopefully we’ll come up with some new songs for Hyde Park.”
Now, Doherty has given his own thoughts on the subject during a chat with NME, confirming ideas both new and old could be explored in time for Hyde Park.
“We were talking about doing some new songs,” he reveals. “Or even better, finishing some old songs that we always knew should have been on ‘Up The Bracket’ if we could have been arsed. I could hum them and Carl would know about them.”
The Libertines play Hyde Park on July 5th with their special guests The Pogues, Spiritualized, Maximo Park and The Enemy.
