Mick Jagger has said The Rolling Stones‘ headline performance at Glastonbury last month was both ‘difficult’ and ‘fantastic’, but admitted he would be open to the possibility of a return to Worthy Farm for the band in the future should the opportunity present itself.
“Lots of people told me before we did it that it’s quite a difficult gig before we did it so I was ready for it to be,” he told NME. “And it was difficult. You have to have your wits about you to play Glastonbury. In the end it was a fantastic gig and the audience was amazingly responsive.”
Later, Jagger spoke of the ‘intense’ atmosphere at the long running event in Somerset, and also reflected on the now rare challenge for the Stones in holding court over a festival audience.
“Glastonbury is a super intense weekend,” he said. “People that go to Glastonbury haven’t bought their tickets to go and see The Rolling Stones. They’ve gone to Glastonbury for Glastonbury – for the whole weekend and the experience. It’s more than just a music festival. It’s a mad social event.”
