Serge Pizzorno has backed Glastonbury’s first ever ‘metal’ headliner, Metallica, to prove their doubters wrong when they play the event next month.
Fevered speculation had surrounded the identity of Glastonbury’s third and final headliner for 2014, with the likes of David Bowie, Prince, Oasis, The Stone Roses and Fleetwood Mac all strongly linked with the role in the build-up to the official announcement earlier this month.
And reaction was seen as mixed when Metallica were confirmed to be joining Arcade Fire and Pizzorno’s band Kasabian at the point of the Pyramid Stage in June, but Pizzorno has backed the band to have an impact at Worthy Farm similar to that of previous left-field bookings Jay-Z and Beyonce.
“The thing is no-one’s really sure and usually that means something quite amazing will happen, he told MTV. “Everyone was panicked about Jay Z and Beyoncé, but look what happened.”
“These boys, they’re clever, man. They’ve been doing it a long time and there’s a reason why they are who they are. I’m sure they’ll pull something out the bag.”
