Howie Payne will be performing songs by his former band The Stands when he tours the UK throughout May.
Payne’s gigs with his new backing band The Band Of The Sun are set to help promote a vinyl boxset release of The Stands’ back catalogue, The Stands Recordings 2003 – 2005 featuring three LPs, the first two including alternate, rare, remixed and unreleased versions of tracks which attracted fans such as Noel Gallagher and Bill Ryder-Jones.
“The Stands? A fine band, sadly missed,” Gallagher says. “I’ll never forget the soundcheck at The Royal Court in Liverpool supporting Oasis in 2002…blew us all away.”
“I remember going down to London to play piano for The Stands,” Ryder-Jones adds. “I lost my s**t because Noel Gallagher was there and he told me that Howie said I’d nail my part in three takes.”
“Anyway, one take later I was sauntering back into the control like a dude. Myself aside, they were a great band and made great music. Well deserving of a re-release.”
