Former Sex Pistols bass player Glen Matlock will headline an ‘anti-jubilee’ concert to be staged at Bath Racecourse between June 2nd-4th this year.
The Last Jubilee concert is being dubbed ‘a celebration of the true spirit of ’77’, and will also host a series of seventies punk survivors including the likes of The Damned, The Buzzcocks, UK Subs, The Vibrators and Hugh Cornwell on its bill. Despite the anarchic theme, the festival will in fact aim to raise money for a number of charities – one of which will be Wooden Spoon, whose patron is the Princess Royal.
“One of the charities we are raising money for is Wooden Spoon which helps disadvantaged young children,” promoter Jeremy Sellick has said. “Princess Anne is the patron. She is a very hard-working royal and we would like to invite her.”
“It’s a chance to revisit the days of anarchy for a good cause. You can jump around for 10 minutes like you are 17 and then lie down for three weeks afterwards.”
Meanwhile Matlock, who will perform with his band The Philistines, has said the event “…shows you what goes around comes around. I won’t be standing there as either a monarchist or anti-monarchist. This is just a good opportunity for a gig.”
