Jonathan Berg, co-founder of the Artpèges gallery, has said the Oasis guitar represents a ‘cult moment’ in pop history.
The red Gibson guitar which was one of the collateral victims of the fight between Liam and Noel Gallagher which brought about the end of Oasis in 2009 has sold at auction for £325,000.
The sale took place in Paris, the same city where Oasis had been due to play the Rock en Seine Festival before a backstage fight between the brothers brought both an end to that August evening’s scheduled headline set and the band entirely.
The already largely underwhelming 2008-9 Dig Out Your Soul world tour was in its final throes when Noel Gallagher confirmed his departure with a now-infamous statement on the group’s official website which read:
“It’s with some sadness and great relief to tell you that I quit Oasis tonight. People will write and say what they like, but I simply could not go on working with Liam a day longer.”
