black midi have released their second studio album today on New Music Friday – have a listen on Live4ever via Spotify.

The sonic palette was expanded by black midi as they worked on Cavalcade in the absence of guitarist Matt Kwasniewski-Kelvin; saxophonist Kaidi Akinnibi, keyboard player Seth Evans and violinist Jerskin Fendrix recruited to move on from the wall of noise which had underpinned their debut long player Schlagenheim.

“The addition of brass and keys was just one of the stages of a new approach to writing and recording which effectively forced them to live more in the moment, working (albeit not exclusively) on much fresher material started at home, individually, before being knocked around to completion in the studio,” our review reads.

“It removed what frontman Geordie Greep had come to view as ‘the dangerous myth’ of improvisation eventually bringing divine intervention, the logical conclusion of this being that a song might never be finished, might always have something missing, that final note never played.”
