The Pogues’ 1984-86 BBC sessions to be released on new compilation

BBC Sessions

Sessions undertaken by The Pogues on the BBC between 1984-86 will be released as a new collection on October 30th.

Available on CD and digital platforms, the sessions from the John Peel, David ‘Kid’ Jensen, Phil Kennedy and Janice Long shows will focus mainly on the first phase of the band, when their punk apprenticeships remained at the forefront of Shane MacGowan’s devotion to Irish folk songs and fairytale.

Thus, rare live versions of firm early favourites such as Streams Of Whiskey, Greenland Whale Fisheries, Poor Paddy and Dirty Old Town are included, as is Sally MacLennane whose performance for John Peel in December 1984 is streaming now.

The Janice Long session from November 1986 also points towards a future of more classic rock and world music influences, particualrly through takes of If I Should Fall From Grace With God and Lullaby Of London.
