The death of DJ and producer Andrew Weatherall has been announced. He was 56.

“We are deeply sorry to announce that Andrew Weatherall, the noted DJ and musician passed away in the early hours of this morning, Monday 17th February 2020, at Whipps Cross Hospital, London,” a statement reads.

“The cause of death was a pulmonary embolism. He was being treated in hospital but unfortunately the blood clot reached his heart. His death was swift and peaceful. His family and friends are profoundly saddened by his death and are taking time to gather their thoughts.”

Weatherall first made his mark with Paul Oakenfold on the Happy Mondays’ 1989 Hallelujah EP, and soon had a mighty influence on Primal Scream and the early nineties scene when he stripped the band’s track I’m Losing More Than I’ll Ever Have down to its bare-bones and reassembled it as Loaded, in turn filling countless dancefloors around the world and inspiring a new direction for the Scream which would result in the 1992 Mercury Prize winning Screamadelica.
