After first getting the keys in September 2017, The Libertines are ready to unveil the ‘first phase’ of The Albion Rooms – a five-storey, ten-room Victorian building in Margate – on August 31st.

Two bars and a recording studio will be officially opened at 1pm on that date; a downstairs bar dubbed ‘The Waste Land’ which is to welcome international and local artists to perform poetry, live music and exhibit art, and an Upstairs Bar which is also initially to be opened to the public before being turned into a private bar and lounge space. “It might be a while before we challenge The Savoy or The Grand Budapest in the hotel stakes, but we’ve put a lot of love into this,” Carl Barat says.

“Meanwhile, it’s a colourful and inspiring home for the Libertines and I look forward to the Albion Rooms becoming our very own Warholian Factory.”
