Johnny Marr‘s autobiography Set The Boy Free has been set for release on November 3rd.
It’ll be out on hardback, eBook and audiobook, going back to Marr’s early life and the formation of The Smiths, through to his many different career junctures since he quit that band in 1987, including Electronic, The Cribs, Modest Mouse and his more recent solo project.
“I wanted to convey a feeling of breaking free, that has been a constant throughout my life,” Marr has said. “A feeling that expresses itself as both escape and discovery. Transcendence. I found it through rock ‘n’ roll and art and a journey living both in the modern world.”
He spoke of writing the memoirs with BBC 6Music’s Matt Everitt last year, saying: “I wanted it to be my own voice. So I’m writing it, I’m not using a ghostwriter or a journalist or anything like that. I’m just relying on a really good memory.”
Johnny Marr will be on the bill headlined by Noel Gallagher at Glasgow’s Summer Sessions at Bellahouston Park on Friday, August 26th
