Morrissey declared that there was ‘no need for me to say goodbye’ as he played the last of his London Eventim Apollo gigs last night (September 21st).
Not only the last Eventim gig, but the final gig of his career according to a post made on fansite True To You last week, and NME quotes him as the telling the crowd:
“Our UK days conclude but there is no need for me to say goodbye because we will all be close for the rest of our days.”
Morrissey blamed his apparent live retirement on a general lack of label interest in taking care of his fresh material, believing there to be little point in touring without the prospect of a new album.
“There is absolutely no way that we can generate any interest from record labels in the United Kingdom, therefore the imminent two nights at Hammersmith are likely to be our final ever UK shows,” the True To You statement reads.
His ‘final show’ stayed loyal however to last year’s ‘World Peace Is None Of Your Business‘, but did too find time for a smattering of previous solo favourites and Smiths classics.
