US supergroup Green Day have announced details of a UK stadium tour to take place in June 2010.
The trio will play gigs at Manchester’s Lancashire County Cricket Ground on Wednesday June 16th and Wembley Stadium on Saturday June 19th, before moving on to France for a show at Parc Des Princes in Paris seven days later. The dates will be the band’s first UK stadium dates since they played two nights at the Milton Keynes Bowl in 2005.
Speaking to nme.com about the dates, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said: “Playing Wembley Stadium is kind one of those moments in your career when you just go ‘holy shit!’ It’s going to be great because Wembley has a long tradition of rock concerts with the likes of U2, Foo Fighters and Muse playing here in the past and we’re just happy to be part of that. It’ll be great to play in Manchester too.”
Dates:
Manchester Lancashire County Cricket Ground – June 16th
London Wembley Stadium – 19th
Paris Parc Des Princes – 26th
Tickets go on sale at 9am on November 6th.
The pop punkers sat down with NRJ TV earlier this year to field some viewers’ questions:
hello there! I just wanted to tell you all that i wen t to see green day on the
31st October 2009 (yep HALLOWEEN) and they were AMAZING!! They came on
unannounced as Foxboro hot tubs which was totally unexpected and after a short
five minute break.. they came and rocked out for around three hours.. they
played absaloutely everything and the audience participation was fantastic… if
there is one band that love their fans it’s greenday! The hightlight for me was
Billie Joe taking the fresh red rose oput of my hand and holding it to his
chjest for what seemed like ages… and then deciding he wanted my flashing
glasses! the show couldn’t have been any better EPIC night and i think this is
the right time to moan about the recent EMA awards … although i am aware it
was the public voting system HOW ON EARTH DID GREEN DAY NOT GET BEST LIVE BAND
AND WHO THE HELL ARE TOKIO HOTEL…anything to do with their nationality by any chance… it turned so political that i actually forgot i was watching the EMA’s it was more like the Eurovision …. anyway i just wanted to tell you all that green day were sooo amazing live as soon as the stadium tour was announced i made it my priority to get tickets….. so i will see you guys in manchester on the 16th JUNE …. Green day I LOVE YOU XXXXXX
