Carl Barat‘s a busy boy at the moment.

Whilst working on a first studio album in over a decade with The Libertines – the details of which were officially confirmed today – he’s also been busy honouring commitments with The Jackals, who were formed out of a desire to leave behind his solo career just a short time before The Libertines’ live return was announced last year.

A resultant LP, ‘Let It Reign‘, was released at the start of 2015, and there’s still live dates for Barat going ahead despite on-and-off recording sessions with Pete Doherty in Thailand.

He could be found then in Manchester on Monday night (June 29th) ably supporting Black Rebel Motorcycle Club at the city’s Albert Hall venue, where Live4ever’s Gary Mather was treated to a suave, sophisticated and brash set.

As for the future, Barat sounded uncertain when in interview with NME back in April. “It’s dawned on the band that we’re at the sunset of this cycle now,” he said. “We’ve been in the trenches together, but now they’re going to knuckle down and figure out what it is they’ve got to say and what I can bring to it.”
