Former Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes has said he is now ‘making the kind of music he wants to make’ following his former band’s dissolution back in 2010.
Supergrass announced their intention to call it a day in April 2010 after the completion of a small farewell UK tour, citing ‘musical differences’ as one of the main reasons for their split.
And now Coombes has revealed he has no desire to be in a band again in the future as he prepares for the release of his first solo album later this year.
“With my solo album I’m making the kind of music I want to make,” he told NME. “I don’t have to have a discussion with a bandmate where I’m trying to convince them of the direction I want to go in. Right now I don’t want to to be in a band or anything like a band.”
“I get a bit anxious because of my experiences. I don’t want to sound negative, because it was great to spend 18 years in a band with guys I love. But I’m happy doing what I’m doing now.”
Coombes’ debut record, ‘Here Come The Bombs‘, will be released on May 21st, and is to be preceded by the single ‘Hot Fruit‘ a week earlier.
