Kasabian have told the Daily Star newspaper they may embark on a maiden UK stadium tour next year, but hopes of a stop in their hometown along the way have been dashed.
When quizzed about a tour of UK outdoor venues, the band’s frontman Tom Meighan remarked: “I can’t say anything about it, but time will tell.”
“It would really be something if we could play Wembley Stadium,” added guitarist and songwriter Serge Pizzorno. “To be big enough to headline there? Magnificent. Who knows what’ll happen next year.”
However, they did elaborate more on discussions with Leicester City FC over arranging a gig at the football club’s relatively new home ground, revealing the potential show may prove impossible thanks to issues with the stadium’s design.
“When the stadium was built it wasn’t designed to be sturdy enough to have rock shows there,” Meighan added. “We keep asking the council if it can be strengthened. It would be incredible to have a homecoming at City’s ground as the biggest venue in Leicester only holds 2,000 people, which is frustrating.”
The two bandmates also discussed the possibility of them fulfilling a life-long dream by headlining Glastonbury when the festival returns from its break in 2013.
“It would have been brilliant to play Glastonbury but all we need is a phone call from Michael Eavis and we’ll be there for 2013,” said Tom Meighan.
“One thing I really want to do before all this ends is to headline Glastonbury as we’ve always had an incredible time playing there,” confirmed Pizzorno. “Hopefully it’ll happen.”
Kasabian released their new LP ‘Velociraptor!‘ earlier this month and currently sit at number one on the UK Album Chart.
