Elton John has been confirmed as the latest guest set to appear on the forthcoming Queens Of The Stone Age album.

Recording sessions for the LP have already been revealed to have included contributions from Mark Lanegan, Nick Oliveri and more prominently Dave Grohl – who were all a part of the band’s ‘Songs For The Deaf‘ period a decade or so ago. In addition, Jake Shears of the Scissor Sisters and Trent Reznor are also reported to be featuring on the LP.

And now Dave Grohl has discussed the story behind Elton John’s contribution after welcoming the veteran to Chelsea Lately’s US chat show which he is currently guest hosting.

“I was in Vegas and I flew back to LA and Engelbert Humperdinck had written me a very sweet letter and asked me to sing a duet with him,” Elton remembers. “He is part of my history and I couldn’t say no so I went and recorded a song with him. Then I drove three blocks and went from Engelbert to Queens Of The Stone Age, which was a bit of a mindfuck.”

“I remember you walking in and him being like, ‘Have you got a ballad for me?’ and we were just like, ‘No, we do not have a ballad for you’,” Grohl adds, before Elton continued that, “After three hours we got it and he drummed on every take and every take was amazing. He’s built like a brick shithouse when he drums.”
