OUR RECAP OF THE MAIN STORIES WE FEATURED DURING THE PAST SEVEN DAYS INCLUDES triumph for Little Simz at the Mercurys and a new album and tour for DMA’s.

Little Simz has won the 2022 Mercury Prize for her fourth studio album Sometimes I Might Be Introvert.

“We all change people’s lives with our music and that’s the most important thing, so this is for us really,” she said when concluding her acceptance speech.

Previously nominated in that bumper 2019 year with GREY Area, Simz beat off competition from the likes of Wet Leg, Self Esteem and Yard Act with a record which Live4ever immediately got on board with upon the release of its lead track Introvert back in the spring of last year.

Stormzy has premiered the official video for Hide & Seek after This Is What I Mean was recently confirmed for release on November 25th.

The follow-up to 2019’s Heavy Is The Head was created during what’s been described as a ‘music camp’ on Osea Island.

“When you hear about music camps they always sound intense and sombre,” Stormzy said. “People saying: ‘We need to make an album.’ ‘We need to make some hit records.’ But this felt beautifully free.”

The first artists confirmed to be performing at SXSW 2023 have been revealed.

Among those making the journey over from the UK will be The Lounge Society – their second attempt after withdrawing this year – Jane Weaver, Pigsx7 and Crawlers.

“This first small reveal is just a taste of what you can expect at South By Southwest 2023,” the event’s VP James Minor, VP responded.

DMA’s have announced their new album How Many Dreams? with news of an April 2023 headline tour of the UK.

“Everybody’s Saying Thursday’s The Weekend we’ve all thought it, we’ve all felt it,” Jonny Took said of the LP’s lead single.

“This song is about letting go of the things that weigh us down and embracing the future with a sense of optimism. Stepping in the ‘Right light in the dark times’.”

After the summer release of Geronimo, Young Fathers have confirmed their new album Heavy Heavy will be out on February 3rd next year.

That single is on there along with nine other new tracks, including the lead I Saw – ‘a big bully with shite down their leg, still swaggering’.

“Heavy Heavy could be a mood, or it could describe the smoothed granite of bass that supports the sound,” the band said.

The MOBO Awards will be returning to London for its 25th anniversary celebrations later this year.

Having been at the Coventry Building Society Arena for 2021, the ceremony will move to the OVO Arena Wembley on November 30th.

“It’s a proud moment to see MOBO Awards return to London for our big 25 year milestone, which will see us celebrating our legacy, as well as paying it forward to the biggest stars of the scene,” Kanya King said.
