News Round-Up: Pink Floyd, Grammy Awards

Pink Floyd

Our recap of the main stories we featured during the past seven days includes the first new music from Pink Floyd since 1994 and this year’s big Grammy Awards winners.

Pink Floyd have shared a new song entitled Hey Hey Rise Up in support of the people of Ukraine.

Recorded just last month, the track sees David Gilmour and Nick Mason – together with long-time Floyd bass player Guy Pratt, and with Nitin Sawhney on keyboards – teaming up with Andriy Khlyvnyuk of Ukrainian band Boombox.

“In 2015, I played a show at Koko in London in support of the Belarus Free Theatre, whose members have been imprisoned,” Gilmour explains.

Interpol have set their new album The Other Side Of Make-Believe for release on July 15th.

Tracking back to those remote days of 2020, the material began to truly take shape when the band reconvened at a rented home in the Catskills in early 2021, adding the finishing touches later that year in London with producer Flood.

The video for first single Toni is the first of a two-parter with director Van Alpert, whom the band very much enjoyed working with.

Imagine Dragons have premiered the visuals for their recent single Bones.

Produced by Swedish duo Mattman & Robin, it’s been revealed that the track will be on ‘Act 2‘ of the band’s Mercury album series which is to be paired up with last year’s first volume for a double LP release of 18 tracks on July 1st.

“It definitely served as the inspiration for the Bones video,” Dan Reynolds says, referring to the omnipresent influence of Michael Jackson’s Thriller.

St Vincent and Chance, The Rapper were two of the winners in the specialist categories at last week’s Grammy Awards ceremony.

On a night when Silk Sonic and Jon Batiste went home with the main awards, St Vincent’s Daddy’s Home was honoured with Best Alternative Music Album, while Chance, The Rapper’s Call Me If You Get Lost – another of Live4ever’s top 2021 picks – grabbed Best Rap Album.

Elsewhere, Foo Fighters dominated the Rock shortlists once again, winning Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song and Best Rock Album.

Sharon Van Etten has confirmed the details of her new album We’ve Been Going About This All Wrong.

The recent two singles Porta and Used To It are not included on this, Van Etten’s sixth studio record, and no further singles are planned before its release on May 6th.

“I wanted to approach this release differently, to engage my fans in an intentional way, in an effort to present the album as a whole body of work,” Van Etten explains.

Sam Fender, Dave and Adele are all among the nominees for this year’s Ivor Novello Awards.

“It’s been a standout year for music and I am full of admiration for the 77 talented songwriters and composers we are celebrating this year,” one of the Ivor judges, Shaznay Lewis, comments.

“Their work and words touch on a dizzying range of emotions, and I count myself lucky to have heard their stories. As it has every year since 1956, The Ivors celebrates the outstanding creation of music, and I’d like to say a huge congratulations to every nominee.”
