Taylor Hawkins was 50.

Taylor Hawkins is being hailed as one of modern rock’s greatest drummers after the public announcement of his death via a statement across Foo Fighters’ social media channels.

Hawkins had been on a South American tour with the band, and according to reports was found unresponsive in his hotel room in Bolivia.

“The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of Taylor Hawkins,” the statement reads.

“His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”

After Dave Grohl launched the Foo Fighters in 1994 ostensibly as his post-Nirvana solo venture, Taylor Hawkins joined up three years later and, aside from Grohl, became arguably the most prominent face in the group as it grew from those humble beginnings to the stadium rock behemoth we recognise today.
