Adele released her new album 30 in November.

Whilst many smaller and/or independent bands and singers have struggled to get their vinyl records out to their fans on time this year due to a myriad of production issues, a new imbalance enjoyed by much more mainstream artists has nevertheless pushed sales of the format up again, to a 30-year high.

The predicted Top 5 says it all – ABBA, Adele, Ed Sheeran, and two of vinyl’s most enduring favourites since the renaissance started in earnest during the last decade, Amy Winehouse’s Back To Black and Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours.

“It’s a great time to be a music fan, with wider choice on offer than ever before supported by great value,” BPI chief exec Geoff Taylor believes. “Thanks to record label investment into new music and talent, fans can purchase and collect the music they most love on vinyl, CD and even cassette.”

“Whilst also enjoying access to over 70 million songs to stream instantly whenever and how often they want, in turn enabling a new generation of artists to create music and sustain successful careers in a global market.”
