“The album is about the life and legacy of Dave’s father, indigenous identity, death, grief and God,” Gang Of Youths says. “And also the Angel, Islington.”
There’s been a sense of momentum about Gang Of Youths since the release of the ‘angel of 8th ave.’ single earlier this year, and they’ll look to continue it into 2022 when their new album ‘angel in realtime.’ comes out on February 25th.
The loss of a loved one, how life might never seem the same in its wake, and the dichotomy of the rest of the world carrying on regardless are themes running through the record, informed by the experiences of frontman Dave Le’aupepe after the death of his father.
“I hope the record stands as a monument to the man my father was and remains long after I’m gone myself,” he says. “He deserved it.”
