Oasis’ original drummer Tony McCarroll has revealed he is recovering from a heart attack.

“Wanted to let you know I was admitted to hospital on Thursday after suffering a heart attack on Wednesday night,” he has written on social media.

“I’m not quite out of the woods as yet but just want to give a massive big up to our NHS. We are more than fortunate to have such a service!”

Liam Gallagher replied on Twitter that he was ‘sending love’ to his former colleague.

A childhood friend of the Gallaghers and his subsequent bandmates Paul Arthurs and Paul McGuigan, McCarroll was a part of the early 90’s group which would evolve into the Oasis incarnation which made such an impact on British music upon the release of their debut album in 1994.

McCarroll’s unpretentious drumming style contributed much to the punk ethos of Definitely Maybe, but his final appearance with the band would come the following year on Top Of The Pops no less with the band on the verge of conquering the world.
