During the past couple of weeks, Live4ever has been shining the spotlight on some of our favourite albums and tracks of 2021 so far – we conclude today with W. H. Lung.

What a bumper year for music 2019 was.

Whilst no-one could’ve predicted the direction in which the world was heading as those twelve months progressed, what we did have was a seemingly endless supply of new music of all shapes and sizes and of such a consistent quality that, had they all come along fifty years earlier, would now have a David Hepworth book written about them.

There’s probably no better case study for the quality of that year than Incidental Music. Not only because it barely found room on any end-of-year lists (Live4ever was, of course, one of the exceptions), but that it seemed to slip under most people’s radars altogether.

For the perspicacious lot who were put under the W. H. Lung spell though, their return just last month with Pearl In The Palm was an immediate highlight of 2021 so far.

In a conscious effort, gone was the meticulous, measured march of their debut album, replaced with a more immediate hit to the beat, singer Joe Evans reflecting on the nature of their live shows and, ‘romanticising about launching onto the stage in a bundle of energy and starting the party, no messing’.

If the new album Vanities, due in September, follows in its lead single’s footsteps, this time there’ll surely be no radar W. H. Lung goes unnoticed on.
