Joey Jordison was 46.
The death of Slipknot founder member and drummer Joey Jordison has been announced by his family.
When releasing a statement yesterday, family members described Jordison as passing away ‘peacefully in his sleep’, but did not disclose a specific cause.
“Joey’s death has left us with empty hearts and feelings of indescribable sorrow,” the statement reads. “To those that knew Joey, understood his quick wit, his gentle personality, giant heart, and his love for all things family and music.”
“The family of Joey have asked that friends, fans, and media understandably respect our need for privacy and peace at this incredibly difficult time.”
Jordison became a driving force for Slipknot as the band emerged out of the unlikely surroundings of a Des Moines death metal scene to become worldwide stars by the turn of the 21st century, writing some of the tracks which propelled that success in the process.
