Mr Brightside was one of the singles which gave The Killers immediate success with their 2004 debut album Hot Fuss.

The Official Charts Company has revealed that The Killers’ enduring favourite Mr. Brightside has now notched up a total of five years in non-consecutive weeks on the Top 100 of the UK’s Singles Chart.

The 260 weeks is a long way ahead of second place – taken up by another mid-noughties indie staple, Snow Patrol‘s Chasing Cars – whilst the likes of Ed Sheeran and Kings Of Leon reflect the impact of streaming on records such as this one.

An exception to prove the rule though is Frank Sinatra’s My Way; 50 years of bad karaoke putting it at #4.

Longest running songs on UK Singles Chart’s Top 100 (Peak/Year First Charted/Weeks In Top 100):

1 – Mr Brightside – The Killers (10/2004/260)
2 – Chasing Cars – Snow Patrol (6/2006/166)
3 – Perfect – Ed Sheeran (1/2017/165)
