The Coral introduce their grandad as latest inhabitant of Coral Island

The Coral

The Coral release their next album on April 30th.

The Coral promised a cast of eccentric characters who’d be inhabiting the world of their new album Coral Island, and the one introduced to us today is close to home.

“Coral Island is a world of end-of-the-pier day drinkers, kids who get where they shouldn’t, pre-rock and roll macabre jukebox pop and long nights of risky fun by the pitch black sea,” James Skelly says.

“It seemed to call for a tour guide of some kind. Our grandad’s voice was an obvious choice to say the words none of us can say without a musical instrument in our hands.”

His video presentation as The Great Muriarty is one of several audio and visual portraits conceived and created by artist Edwin Burdis which will be bringing the island to life during the build-up to release.

It’s with all this that The Coral are following up 2018’s Move Through The Dawn – when they, ‘broadened the pallet once more, with several pleasant splashes of colour across the record’ according to Live4ever’s review.
