Tame Impala and The Avalanches are on a final list whittled down from 85 artists.

The shortlist for this year’s Australian Music Prize represents a, ‘wide and diverse pool of talent from right around the country’, according to organisers.

As Billboard reports, The Slow Rush from Tame Impala and The Avalanches’ recent We Will Always Love You are two of the high profile records which will be competing for a first prize of A$20,000.

“The feedback directly from artists who released albums in 2020 has been quite incredible; much praise for us being able to keep The AMP alive in a year that wasn’t alive in so many ways,” Scott Murphy of the SoundMerch Australian Music Prize comments.

“It could not have been done without the help of long term industry friends, especially APRA and the Mushroom Group, whose financial support remained intact for the 16th year.”
