Over 50 years on, Paul McCartney’s original dream for The Beatles’ ‘Get Back’ album and film project might just be in the process of being realised by Peter Jackson in a New Zealand editing suite.

The director has revealed a first montage from the documentary he began working on in 2018, ahead of a delayed cinematic release now planned for the late summer of next year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

As he’s made tradition during the past few years, Barack Obama has shared a playlist of his favourite songs of the year, aided by his daughter Sasha whom he describes as the ‘family music guru’.

“Here are some of my favorite songs of the year,” Obama’s written on social media. “As usual, I had some valuable consultation from our family music guru, Sasha, to put this together. I hope you find a new song or two to listen to.”

£3.8m has been raised by the #SaveOurVenues initiative during 2020, an end-of-year statement from the Music Venue Trust charity has revealed.

In a year when live music has been hit hard by pandemic restrictions, MVT has in turn been fighting harder to keep our cherished grassroots venues going during such a long period of inactivity, this figure adding to the Cultural Recovery Fund whose existence owes so much to the tireless work of movements like this.

The White Stripes Greatest Hits artwork wide

A 90-minute ‘Yule Log’ video has been premiered by The White Stripes, featuring the original Christmas song Candy Cane Children.

Also soundtracking the animated film are rarities and b-sides from the band’s career, as well as better known songs which made the cut for their recent Greatest Hits collection.

The end of the year has brought a new video for The Flaming Lips’ long-standing festive track A Change At Christmas (Say It Isn’t So).

The song can be traced back to the early part of the last decade and the band’s Ego Tripping At The Gates Of Hell EP, but it’s been given an updated spruce by Wayne Coyne as the Grinch.

The video for Pale Waves’ recent single She’s My Religion has premiered, with direction from Jess Kohl.

The band are following up their 2018 debut My Mind Makes Noises in February with Who Am I?, and Heather Baron-Gracie has previously described this track as not, ‘the standard or typical love song’.
