The Kinks release animated Lola video ahead of Powerman And The Moneygoround reissue

The Kinks Lola Versus Powerman and The Moneygoround Part One

Another Golden anniversary is coming up for The Kinks.

Chris Garratt and Mick Kidd of Biff Cartoon, with video and creative direction by John Paveley and Andy Galloway, have put an animated take on The Kinks‘ Lola as part of Lola Versus Powerman And The Moneygoround Part One’s 50th anniversary celebrations.

There’s already been a ‘Lola Day’ back in June to mark 50 years since the classic single’s original release, and now the album is following with its own birthday on December 18th, reissued with newly remastered versions of the record, its singles in stereo and mono, b-sides and alternate original mixes.

One of those new mixes is a medley of Any Time put together by Ray Davies, inspired by the isolation caused by pandemic restrictions.

“Music can comfort the lonely, transcend time and it’s not the future or the past, yesterday, today or tomorrow,” he’s said. “It’s anytime,”.

“I saw a way of making this unreleased 1970s track connect to an audience in 2020. I also saw a way of showing that music can time-travel, that memory is instantaneous and therefore can join us in the ‘now’. I put this together as something surreal then realized that it was really happening. The song has found its place – after its 50th birthday!”
