The MOBO Awards are back for 2020 after a three-year absence.

A look at some of the nominations during the years immediately leading up to its last ceremony in 2017 probably tells its own story of how the MOBO Awards had begun to lose sight of its M.O., but the nominations unveiled for its first ceremony since then reflect a return to a genre-spectrum British scene in rude health.

Alas, the comeback won’t have the audience it deserves due to lockdown restrictions, but founder Kanya King has partnered with YouTube and the BBC to bring nominees such as Stormzy, Lianne La Havas, FKA Twigs, Dave, Skepta and Little Simz to as many people as possible.

“Recognising the unique role the MOBO Awards plays for so many, and the challenging year we find ourselves in, it is now more important than ever to be there and to continue the rich history of showcasing the very best of Black music and culture,” King says.

Those partnerships will see the December 9th ceremony broadcast from 7pm UK time on YouTube, followed later at 10.45pm on BBC One.
