Sigur Rós will release Odin’s Raven Magic on December 4th, an album of orchestral work inspired by the poetry of the Icelandic piece The Edda, with which the band have been associated since the music was first performed by them at the Reykjavik Arts Festival in 2002.

The band have collaborated with Hilmar Örn Hilmarsson, the Schola Cantorum of Reykjavik and the L’Orchestre des Laureats du Conservatoire national de Paris on eight tracks which are being showcased with Dvergmál. “Hrafnagaldur Óðins has lots of interpretation and implications that fire up the imagination,” Hilmarsson says.

“It’s a very visual poem, with images all about falling down, and a world freezing from north to south. It was an apocalyptic warning. Perhaps the people of the time felt it in their skins. Today, of course, Iceland is involved in environmental issues surrounding hydro-electric power and the destruction of the highlands. We are being warned again.”

Odin’s Raven Magic tracklist:

Alföður orkar
Dvergmál
Stendur æva
Áss hinn hvíti
