Oasis‘ 1995 single Wonderwall has surpassed the one billion streams milestone on Spotify – the first song from the nineties to do so.

Indeed, it joins Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody as the only songs from the 20th century to hit this landmark, further evidence of the enduring popularity of the band over ten years on from their split.

Released just a few weeks after (What’s The Story) Morning Glory?, it was this single which catapulted its parent album to worldwide success, continuing huge momentum in the UK too after the tabloid frenzy of the Oasis/Blur chart battle the previous summer.

Once Don’t Look Back In Anger had delivered them another UK number one single in the February of 1996, the Gallagher brothers could well claim to be their home country’s biggest pop phenomenon since The Beatles.

This achievement comes after …Morning Glory received a 25th anniversary reissue earlier this month, putting it back in the UK charts for a 457th week in the process.
