The cue cards which for over a decade now have been a unique part of his live performances will be one of the tools used in an equally unique memoir from Gruff Rhys which is set for release on February 21st next year.

Resist Phony Encores! will illustrate anecdotes from Rhys’ touring life with graphics, photographs – and those cue cards – designed by his long-term collaborator Mark James. “Suddenly there was little pressure for me to communicate with the audience, when all I was interested in was writing and singing songs,” Gruff says of the cards’ genesis.

“Which was just as well as I had very little in the way of social skills and couldn’t speak very clearly or look an audience in the eye, and I wasn’t interested in people having a good time.”
