Kaiser Chiefs and Declan McKenna have been signed up to close out the UK’s first socially distanced concert series later this month.

Sam Fender launched the Virgin Money Unity Arena – built at Newcastle Racecourse with 2,500 people housed on 500 separate viewing platforms – back in August, and since then the likes of The Libertines, Supergrass and Two Door Cinema Club have played shows at the venue. Kaiser Chiefs have now been added for the penultimate night on September 19th, with Declan McKenna bringing things to a close 24 hours later.

“Absolutely buzzing for this, getting the band and crew back together for probably our only gig of the year,” Fender said of his opening show. “Apparently this is the first socially distanced show of its kind and it’s amazing to see the north east leading the way, it’s huge for the area. There’s a few hundred platforms with five people on each. Grab a few mates and let’s have a platform party! We’re going to play a couple of brand new tunes too.”
