New Music Friday: Disclosure, Angel Olsen

ENERGY

There’s fresh albums from Disclosure and Angel Olsen out today on New Music Friday – have a listen to both right here on Live4ever.

Disclosure set the release of their third album ENERGY back in May, announcing the record with its title-track which features a turn from hip hop preacher Eric Thomas, who’d collaborated with the Lawrence brothers before back in 2013. “When we found Eric many years ago, he was like a goldmine of inspirational quotes and motivational speeches,” the duo said.

“Even if he was speaking to a room of five it was like he was addressing a stadium. He has an immense presence and energy about him that translates so well into music – especially house music. This time we cut up various speeches to make something that makes sense. What he says is basically the whole concept for the record, that’s why it became the title track.”

For Angel Olsen, Whole New Mess draws a clear line from last year’s widely acclaimed All Mirrors album, featuring three tracks from that LP in re-recorded form along side brand new material which was laid down at The Unknown in Anacortes, Washington. “I had gone through this breakup, but it was so much bigger than that,” Olsen said, “I’d lost friendships, too.”

“When you get out of a relationship, you have to examine who you are or were in all the relationships. I wanted to record when I was still processing these feelings. These are the personal takes, encapsulated in a moment.”
