New Music Friday: Bright Eyes, Secret Machines

Down in the Weeds Where the World Once Was

Albums from Bright Eyes and Secret Machines have been released today on New Music Friday – have a listen on Live4ever.

Conor Oberst’s big plans for the restart of Bright Eyes which was confirmed way back in January have largely had to be put on hold due to the world events since that announcement, but Down In The Weeds, Where The World Once Was –  the band’s first album since 2011’s The People’s Key – is out today after they signed to Dead Oceans. ”Bright Eyes is not just a formative artist for me personally, but for countless people who work at Dead Oceans,” the label’s co-founder Phil Waldorf said.

“To get to work with a band that is part of our own origin stories in falling in love with music is the rarest of privileges. We are thrilled to be part of another great chapter in Bright Eyes enduring legacy.”

It’s been an even longer wait for a new Secret Machines album, and a much more turbulent story to tell in the time which has passed between the self-titled effort of 2008 and Awake In The Brain Chamber, which is out today. “After dalliances in various side-projects, Benjamin and drummer Josh Garza teased a return in 2018, but at the start of the following year Garza’s wife was diagnosed with breast cancer and so the reunion was understandably put on hold,” Live4ever’s review reads.

“Indeed, it wasn’t guaranteed that this album would come out at all, but the stars have aligned and, with their shared experiences deepening their bond, Garza and Curtis bludgeon us into submission once more.”
