His brother Win might have been recently hinting at a new Arcade Fire record, but for Will Butler the most pressing concern is a second solo album which has been set for release later this year.

Generations has been given a release date of September 25th, after sessions in the basement of his Brooklyn home which were finished just as the western world was coming to terms with the pandemic in March this year. Its first single, Surrender, is streaming now.

“Surrender is masquerading as a love song, but it’s more about friendship,” Butler explains. “About the confusion that comes as people change—didn’t you use to have a different ideal? Didn’t we have the same ideal at some point? Which of us changed? How did the world change? Relationships that we sometimes wish we could let go of, but that are stuck within us forever.”
