The Weeknd, Caribou and Owen Pallett among the lengthy list of initial nominees for this year’s Polaris Music Prize.

“This period of reflection is leading to the creation of strong new work by strong new voices in music,” Carolyn Warren, director general at the Arts Granting Programs Division says. “The Canada Council for the Arts is proud to associate itself with the Polaris Prize through the Council’s presentation of the Long List.”




The list will be whittled down on The Short List on July 15th, with the very best in Canadian music celebrated at a ceremony on September 21st when the overall winner is to be presented with a $50,000 CAD award.
