Lizzo, Chris Brown, Megan Thee Stallion win at 20th anniversary BET Awards

There were notable triumphs for Lizzo, Chris Brown and Megan Thee Stallion as the US’ Black Entertainment Television network celebrated the 20th anniversary of its awards ceremony yesterday.

Lizzo’s win in the Best Female R&B/Pop artist category meant it was the first time in six years Beyoncé hadn’t taken home the prize, while Megan Thee Stallion’s Best Female Hip-Hop Artist award meant two more of the event’s mainstays – Cardi B and Nicki Minaj – were also left disappointed this year.

Held virtually for 2020 due to current lockdown restrictions, there was nevertheless performances aired on the night from the likes of Alicia Keys, Lil Wayne and Jennifer Hudson.
