A 40th anniversary edition of Joy Division‘s second and final album Closer will be released on July 17th.
The vinyl reissues are also to include Transmission, Atmosphere and Love Will Tear Us Apart – three classic non-album singles which fell in-between this record and the landmark debut Unknown Pleasures.
Joy Division were in the studio during the early spring of 1980 with producer Martin Hannett, working on songs which had been performed live at various stages during the previous year along with newer, more organic compositions which had taken shape during practice sessions. Closer would be released around four months later in the haze of Ian Curtis’ tragic, untimely death.
