New Music Friday: Laura Marling, The Strokes

Song For Our Daughter 1

Laura Marling and The Strokes have released albums today on New Music Friday. Have listen right here on Live4ever via Spotify.

Laura Marling has moved quick with her seventh studio album Song For Our Daughter, announcing it only earlier this week with the first single Held Down after recording sessions with producer Ethan Johns.

“My new album Song For Our Daughter is coming out this week, ahead of our planned schedule,” she said. “In light of the change to all our circumstances, I saw no reason to hold back on something that, at the very least, might entertain, and at its best, provide some sense of union.”

“It’s strange to watch the facade of our daily lives dissolve away, leaving only the essentials; those we love and our worry for them. An album, stripped of everything that modernity and ownership does to it, is essentially a piece of me, and I’d like for you to have it.”

By contrast, The Strokes have spent as much of 2020 as possible building up to their new album The New Abnormal, first talking about it during a new year gig at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center when Julian Casablancas told they crowd they would have, ‘a new album coming out soon’ after, ‘taking the 2010s off’. “2020, here we come. The 2010s, whatever the fuck they’re called, we took them off. And now we’ve been unfrozen and we’re back.”

And they’ve been previewing it ever since, right up to this week when the final single, Brooklyn Bridge To Chorus, was premiered.
