Tom Gilfillan has directed a ‘live session’ video of the latest Badly Drawn Boy single I Just Wanna Wish You Happiness.

“It’s a song which accounts the breakdown of my relationship with my ex partner and mother of my two older children,” Damon Gough says of the track. “About maintaining a tone of dignity through the breakup process and ultimately wishing that person happiness. I hope it’s the only breakup song I have to write, as I am now happily married.”

The video arrives with Badly Drawn Boy’s first studio album in a decade, Banana Skin Shoes, due on May 22nd following 2010’s It’s What I’m Thinking Pt.1 – Photographing Snowflakes. “Churning out albums that just don’t quite feel like home, it takes no genius to see that his Mercury Music Prize success over a decade ago wound up as a blessing and a curse in equal measure,” our review reads.

“All of that, however, seems set to change with his latest release; It’s What I’m Thinking Pt 1: Photographing Snowflakes – an album sent straight from his soul, tackling the inevitable frailties that come with being human: love, loss, inadequacy, loneliness and the eternal search for salvation. It seems as though Mr. Gough has finally clambered back upon his wayward horse and created something fresh, original, and best of all, something beautiful.”
