The Red Hot Chili Peppers are focusing their time on writing new material after the return of guitarist John Frusciante, the band’s drummer Chad Smith has revealed.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Smith said they’ll be ‘mostly concentrating on new songs and writing a new record’ with Frusciante now in his third Chili Peppers spell after replacing his own replacement, Josh Klinghoffer, late last year. “We’re all real excited to make new music,” Smith added.

There are some festivals coming up too with Frusicante set to make his latest bow at the Hangout Music Festival in Alabama in May. “The Red Hot Chili Peppers announce that we are parting ways with our guitarist of the past ten years, Josh Klinghoffer,” the statement announcing the switch read.

“Josh is a beautiful musician who we respect and love. We are deeply grateful for our time with him, and the countless gifts he shared with us. We also announce, with great excitement and full hearts, that John Frusciante is rejoining our group.”
