The Red Hot Chili Peppers have significantly cushioned the blow of Josh Klinghoffer‘s departure by announcing his replacement is John Frusciante.

Klinghoffer has spent a decade as part of the Chili Peppers after Frusciante’s most recent spell with the band ended in 2009, and now the two guitarists have swapped roles again, as announced on social media:

“The Red Hot Chili Peppers announce that we are parting ways with our guitarist of the past ten years, Josh Klinghoffer,” the band’s statement reads. “Josh is a beautiful musician who we respect and love. We are deeply grateful for our time with him, and the countless gifts he shared with us.”

“We also announce, with great excitement and full hearts, that John Frusciante is rejoining our group.”

Frusicante’s third spell with the Red Hot Chili Peppers is at the moment scheduled to start at the Hangout Music Festival in Alabama next May.
