2019 could be a busy one for Pete Doherty if The Libertines’ new album plans are completed in time to be a part of a year which has already witnessed a fair amount of solo activity.

After solo dates in Glasgow, Carlisle and Newcastle last month, Doherty has been touring with his backing band The Puta Madres and played The Plaza in Northwich on February 16th from where Desh Kapur presents his first Live4ever gallery.

Doherty is set to release his first record with The Puta Madres – which includes Trampolene frontman Jack Jones (lead guitar), Miggles (bass), Miki Beavis (violin), Katia DeVidas (piano/keyboards) and Rafa (drums) – on April 26th after sessions at a family home in Étretat, Normandy over the course of four days last summer.

Clever and intelligent wordsmithery, catchy and infectious songs and the feeling that things could fall apart at any minute are the beauty of any Pete Doherty gig, be it The Libertines, Babyshambles or The Puta Madres, and this gig was no different. The music he is writing right now is an assemblage of those previous bands, taking this audience from rock and roll to almost an Irish shanty.

Mostly playing tracks from the forthcoming debut album, the odd classic was thrown in for good measure and a rendition of F*ck Forever to finish off the night brought the house down.
